Kaitlyn Mettetal
Journalist + Project Coordinator

Hi There!
My name is Kaitlyn Mettetal and I am a journalist and project coordinator studying at Emerson College in Boston. While earning a Bachelor in Journalism and Art History, I also host a radio show and publish articles for Emerson College Broadcasting (WECB).

The most fulfilling part of my role as a print-digital and multimedia reporter is the ways in which I am able to use my platform and experiences in the field as a point of advocacy. Journalism's fundamental purpose is to provide a system of accountability for the powers that be and, as a practitioner, I have an obligation to civilians and their wellbeing.

While my writing interests and backgrounds vary from album reviews to college-specific breaking news, I dedicate the majority of my efforts to political diversity pieces. I hope to take my knowledge of communication, people and politics to, one day, conduct long-term ethnographic research and writing regarding urban poverty and global socioeconomic development.
In addition to journalism-related work, I also have experience with editing and publishing, social media curation, graphic design and audio/video production. If you need assistance, want to collaborate on a project or have a great article tip, please feel free to contact me!
Work Experience
2018 - Today
WECB
The opportunity to be a member of Emerson College Broadcasting is the primary reason why I fell in love with my university and the surrounding Boston landscape. From hosting my weekly radio show, MINERVA, to writing articles and publishing magazines for Milk Crate, WECB is responsible for pushing me to grow in my skills as a writer and beyond.
JAN 2019 - MAY 2019
The Digital Journalist
The Digital Journalist is a major-specific, college-run publication that reports long-form breaking news in the Greater Boston area. Working the political diversity beat, TDJ has allowed me to create meaningful, proactive relationships between myself, municipal politicians, non-profits and (most importantly) the marginalized communities that my work seeks to advocate for. Some of my areas of focus while covering this beat was the opioid epidemic, the housing crisis and city budgeting.
AUG 2018 - DEC 2018
The Berkeley Beacon
As a breaking news reporter for Emerson College's The Berkeley Beacon, my position entailed fulfilling weekly pitch assignments from section editors regarding college-specific news. In addition to adapting to a real-world newsroom and strenuous deadlines, I was also able to familiarize myself with editing and the editing process.
Education
AUGUST 2018 - DECEMBER 2021
Emerson College
I am currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Emerson College. I am earning my bachelor's degree in journalism with a concentration in print-digital/multimedia political diversity reporting. In addition to journalism, I am also receiving a minor in art history which is centered around "non-western" contemporary curation. In my spare time, I host multiple leadership roles at Emerson College Broadcasting and the student union.
MAY 2018
Wheaton North High School
I graduated with high honors from Wheaton North High School in the suburbs of Chicago in 2018. During my time there, I identified with many groups within the student body as a member of the volleyball and softball teams, Vice President of the social justice organization and a volunteer with Flock and Key Club.
